Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to HookRow (hookrow.com). By visiting or using this website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These terms apply to everyone who visits, reads, downloads, subscribes or sends us anything through the site.

Description of the Website

HookRow is a free editorial website about crochet. We publish:

• Articles, guides and tutorials
• HookRow's own free crochet patterns
• Links to other designers' free patterns, which stay on those designers' own sites

Everything on HookRow is free to read. You do not need an account to browse.

Informational Purposes Disclaimer

Our content is general information for crafters. It is not professional advice of any kind. Crochet is a hands-on craft, and results depend on your yarn, hook, tension and skill. Use your own judgment, and take care when using sharp tools, small parts or items made for babies and children.

Intellectual Property

The text, patterns, charts, graphics, layout and other content on HookRow are owned by us or used with permission. You may use site content for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please do not copy, republish, scrape or redistribute our articles, tutorials, patterns or images. If you would like to share something, link to the page instead.

The one exception is items you make from our patterns, which is explained in the Free Printable PDFs section below.

Acceptable Use & Prohibited Conduct

When you use HookRow, you agree not to:

• Use the site for anything unlawful
• Use bots, crawlers or other automated tools to scrape or copy our content
• Interfere with the site, its security or its normal operation
• Try to get around the personal copy marks or editing lock on our PDFs
• Submit material that you do not have the right to share

Third-Party Links & Advertisements

HookRow links to outside websites, including other designers' free patterns. These links are provided for your convenience. A link is not an endorsement, and we do not control those sites or their content, safety or policies. We are not responsible for anything on third-party sites, so please read their terms and privacy policies.

Ads on HookRow are shown by our advertising partners and are labelled as ads. Showing an ad does not mean we endorse the advertiser or what it sells.

Newsletter & Communications

Our newsletter is opt-in. We only send it if you sign up. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by writing to us at [email protected].

Free Printable PDFs

Our printable pattern PDFs are free for personal use. Here is what that means:

• You may print the PDF, make the pattern, and sell the items you make.
• You may not share the PDF file, re-upload it, sell it or redistribute it in any way. To share a pattern, send people the link to the pattern page.

Each PDF is a personal copy. Every page shows your name, a partly hidden version of your email address and a copy number, and the file is locked against editing. Please do not try to remove these marks.

Round counts in our patterns are calculated by the site's code. Pictures in a pattern may be AI renderings of the finished piece until makers send us real photos. If a picture and the written instructions ever seem to differ, follow the written instructions and contact us.

The Maker's Challenge

The Maker's Challenge is not a contest, sweepstakes or draw. No purchase is needed, and nothing depends on chance.

How it works

• Any maker who sends three of their own photos of a piece they made from one of HookRow's patterns can be featured.
• A person reviews every submission. We may decline photos that cannot be checked, for example photos that were downloaded, made with AI, or do not show the same piece. When we decline, we say why.
• Gifts, as described on the makers page, go to the first approved makers of each pattern, within a monthly budget. There is one gift per person and pattern. Gifts are sent by email after approval.

Your photos

By submitting photos, you grant HookRow a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to show them with your name (and your Instagram handle, if you give one) on the site, in our Pinterest pins and in our social media posts. You keep ownership of your photos. You can ask us to remove them at any time by emailing [email protected].

Who can enter

Makers must be 18 or older, or send their submission with a parent's permission. No child's face may appear in any photo.

Changes to the challenge

We may change or end the Maker's Challenge at any time. This will not affect gifts already announced to approved makers.

Accuracy of Information

We work hard to keep our content correct and up to date, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, accurate or error-free. Patterns may contain mistakes, and links may stop working. If you spot a problem, please tell us.

Disclaimer of Warranties

HookRow is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including about the site's availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not promise that the site will be uninterrupted or free of errors or harmful components.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, HookRow and its owners and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data or wasted materials, arising from your use of the site or its content. Some places do not allow certain limits, so some of this may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to protect and hold harmless HookRow and its owners and contributors from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your misuse of the site, your breach of these terms, or material you submit that you did not have the right to share.

Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which HookRow's owner is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute arises, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally. If we cannot, the dispute will be handled in the courts located in that state, unless the law requires otherwise.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page. By continuing to use HookRow after changes are posted, you accept the updated terms.
